Abundance of Support

I want to thank everyone for their support in my fight with MS. It is truly overwhelming (in a good way) love and support from everyone. With so much bad and negative in this world, actions and thoughts that people share with me, make me think this world is better than we all think. I am truly blessed to have so many wonderful people in my life. I hope you all know how much your support and love means to me and I thank you from the bottom of my heart. I will continue to give this disease one hell of a fight for you! Thanks again for making me feel so blessed!

Guest Speaker

Today I went and talked to Oswego East High School Health class about MS. I love doing this! It was a 7:30 am class, yea you read that right! I was worried the kids would be asleep but they were an awesome group who listened the whole time and asked lots of great questions. I like to think they are hearing everything I am saying and all I hope is they get this out of what I have to say," Things are going to happen in life that you either decide you are going to get up and fight or you are going to let it take you over. I choose to fight this disease each and every day, and I hope you will always choose to fight too!" Let's hope they got that message. I love spreading the word about MS and getting more and more people to support the cause to END MS! Thanks to Lauren Anderson who asks me to come speak each semester.

Think about it...

"Every book you read, every class you take, every experience you have is another building block in your career and your life." Jack Canfield

What have you done lately to build your life and your career? It really makes you think doesn't it?

MS Living

Found this article interesting in my MSF (Multiple Sclerosis Foundation) Magazine. In it contains an article about the Seven Habits of Highly Successful MSers. Love that! Written by Herb Karpatkin.

1. Be Proactive
2.Maintain and active lifestyle
3. Be aware of the psychological issues that result from the physical ones
4.Assemble a team of specialists
5. Exercise to address specific aspects of your disease, not just for wellness/fitness
6.Think long term
7.Have goals outside of MS

I want to expand on that last one because I like what he says.

"MS can be an all consuming disease if you let it. It is important to have an identity apart from it. Having goals, dreams, and aspirations that are separate from MS asserts that one is a person with a variety of interests. Having goals is a unique aspect of being human. It motivates and defines us. This is not to say that successfully managing one's own disease is not worthy goal. However, it should not be the only goal.

MS is a disease that will affect those who have it in multiple and often unpredictable ways during a lifetime. This does not mean that we are powerless in the face of the disease. People who have had powerful and meaningful lives in spite of the MS are often able to do so because they have used strategies which increase their sense of control over the disease, and therefore over their lives. I urge all people with MS to consider how these qualities can become useful for them."

Makes ya think, huh?

Empowered Living

Last night was an amazing night at our Empowered Living group meeting. Thanks to Jacki Quirrin for donating the food and making cookies that everyone loved! Thanks again to FVSRA for donating the room for us to use for the night. The topic for last night's meeting was being financially prepared and talk about all that has to do with money. Thanks to Karie Hill, Financial Freedom Coach, I know I feel better and am excited about good changes to come. I feel everyone in the group did as well. She really hit the points that concerns those living with a disease. I thank Karie for donating her time to talk with us. I want to tell all those in the group, that you are all amazing people and I am so blessed to have be able to get to know all of you.

Statement Worth Repeating

While reading this blog, this statement struck me and had to share it.

"I explained that the difference in being sick and being healthy is having to make choices or to consciously think about things when the rest of the world doesn’t have to. The healthy have the luxury of a life without choices, a gift most people take for granted."
-by Christine Miserandino at www.butyoudontlooksick.com

This is such a true statement for all of those fighting any disease. Kind of puts what we go through into perspective, I think. Keep on fighting everyone!!!!

My Treatment

So here is what I do each month for about 2-2 1/2 hours. It is typically done in the top of my hand but today my vein did not want to work and had to go on the forearm. My treatment of Tysaburi is pumped through the iv. I sit in a recliner with book and/or computer in hand and a way the time goes! Today, thanks to Abby Gargo, I read gossip magazine Us Weekly. Such a treat! Mary is the nurse who administers the treatment and she is a wonderful lady. She is fun to chat with and is really concerned about each patient who comes in.  Before she put the iv in, you have to read a book about the treatment. The good and the bad, the up's and the down's of what the medicine can and can not do. Mary asks you a series of questions based on your health the past month and then it is game on. Time to fight this MS! Until next month...and it is amazing how fast the months go!

MS Award

Aahh! Last night was the TREMENDOUS 200 Event at the Merchandise Mart in Chicago. The event was to celebrate the top 200 MS WALK teams! And Marci's Stampede was one of them! Better yet...Marci's Stampede is #11 out of 200 in the state of Illinois!!!!!!! How cool is that!! Thanks to all of you for your support, this was possible! I received this award for Fundraising Excellence! Wahoo!! I was so shocked when she called my name! So exciting! I want to thank my parents for all the hard work they do that makes this all possible. They deserves an award! It was a fun night seeing the difference people are making with the MS WALK. Last year, 3.6 million was raised to fight MS. Amazing!!! People are truly great out there! So this kicked off our fundraising efforts and keep posted for fundraising events to come this year. Thanks again for making this award possible by your donations and support! Hugs!!!

Correction

Okay, this was a funny one. On the post about the yummy ham sandwiches I did a typo. I should say 1-2 slices of cheese and 3-4 slices of ham. Somehow I said to have 102 slices of cheese and 304 slices of ham. Well that would be a record for the biggest/smallest sandwich ahaha! Sorry bout that!
